Susie King

I was born and raised a southern California girl. Immediately following graduation from UCLA at the end of the 60’s, I embarked on a 10 year, multi-layered, career in education….too busy paying my bills to be a hippe!! This early path involved classroom teaching grades K-9, an inner-city ESL specialist and finally a curriculum buyer for the Los Angeles School District. My focus was turned from education when a builder friend of mine suggested I get my Real Estate license and sell his condos on the weekends. My first commission check was one third of my entire year's teaching salary. At that time, my next career path of almost 40 years became clear to me.

A real estate professional lives a rollercoaster life of financial uncertainty and emotional extremes, but is rewarded with an independence of time management and a sense of personal accountability. These factors allowed me to explore the globe and feed my innate curiosity about our human family. Along the way I have been married, created a son who now is 45years old, been involved in many layers of community volunteerism and I'm now embracing the immense good fortune of retirement.

My many years in the Wood River Valley of hiking, biking, skiing now have a new sport added to the list. I embraced a long time desire, to learn to surf and have spent the last 10 winters in Mexico on this challenge!!! In summary, my journey thus far has always been guided by an awareness of the need to BE aware!! My early work with children living in challenged communities, as well as those of untold wealth showed me the needs and struggles are similar for us all. I deeply respect the mission of the Flourish Foundation and I am honored to be actively involved with their staff and board. I believe that a society can only prevail if its youth are nurtured with the tools to navigate a mindful and compassionate journey. Their future is this moment. I hope to contribute to its quality.
